In The Spirit Of Doing It Right…
Why do you do what you do for a living? Do you have an innate love or passion for your field, or is it just a means to pay the bills? There’s nothing wrong with either answer– sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.
Check out Spark, a creative agency out of Tampa. They created a spec campaign for Gary Johnson, a third party presidential candidate. When Johnson’s team stole the campaign (used without paying the agency), Spark didn’t respond via cease and desist letters or lawsuits. Instead, they gave away the campaign and all of the assets for free in the craziest PR stunt I’ve seen in recent history.
The page wraps up nicely with a concise bit about doing things the right way, and the spirit of branding. I love this whole thing for a multitude of reasons. I love that Spark did things differently, and I love that it worked well for them. I love the idea of the spirit of the brand, and that they used the ideology to subtly call the Johnson campaign on their theft (which is not okay.) I love that the campaign was able to remind me that I love branding and design in its purest form and that at the end of the day, sometimes that’s what’s most important.
