October 21, 2015, is the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to 2015 from the 1980s, and that day is tomorrow!
As a fan of the Back to the Future trilogy, as I am sure many of you are, October 21, 2015, is a HUGE day.
To celebrate, many companies are creating renditions of their “future” products from the film for a short period of time.
Pepsi has decided to create “Pepsi Perfect” and make that available for a limited time, and Nike released the Nike MAGs (including the self-lacing capabilities) – you read that right. See them here. Toyota has also joined in on the fun, albeit coincidentally. They have released this month a new fuel cell vehicle that runs on hydrogen.
I’m not sure how some of these products will be accepted from a consumption standpoint, but the idea behind them makes for great PR!
Aside from the products being brought out as a celebration for this date, it’s funny that the movie predicted the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, when in actual life, that very well may happen! The Cubs face the New York Mets in the National League Championship series for the chance to face the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals in the World Series. I would imagine like the other items, this is making for some great marketing opportunities for Major League Baseball as a whole and especially for the Cubs hoping to end their 100+ year championship drought.
I can’t wait to see what else may pop up in relation to this movie and this time period. Who knew movie marketing could have that much future impact?
