It is hard to believe it is already mid-February. It feels like it was just Thanksgiving. Time is sure flying by and from a work standpoint, deadlines continue to come full force. After reading an article on AdWeek titled “If Your Calendar is Screaming FML, It’s Time for A Vacation, Say These Clever Print Ads. A Nudge For A Too Busy Culture”, I couldn’t help but relate, as I am sure everyone can at times.
The article, written by Angela Natividad can be found here.
The article references these clever print ads from Ethos Travel that feature calendars full of meetings, deadlines, full workdays and without much room for a breather. If you take a step back and look at the full ad, the workload on the calendar spells out some short messages like “Help Me God”, or “Make It Stop”. These messages reference the non-stop work that continues to pile up. These ads also suggest a nice tip - plan a vacation. Put one in the calendar to give yourself a break from the constant work, work, work.
As I think more and more about this article, I realized that this must happen for quite a lot of people, myself included. Perhaps this “tip” is something everyone should consider. It is hard to get quality work done if you are constantly rushing and going at it non-stop. You need to give yourself a break every once in a while to step away, recharge, and catch your breath! When you have a calendar that looks like one of these ads, your head is on a constant swivel of what to do next, rather than what is right in front of you. When you get to that point, that is when mistakes happen, typos are made, and your best work cannot be done.
If you take anything from this article, let it be this. Give yourself a break. Make time for that much-needed vacation. And until you get to that day or days off, just keep digging and take it one project at a time.
