Working From Home

Working From Home

by Kristy Cartmell, Designer / Social Media Specialist

With everything going on in the world, one small comfort some of us may be experiencing is the ability to work from home. As we move into an age where we see younger generations pushing for a better work-life balance, working from home already seems to be satisfying that need. However, in the midst of a pandemic, it’s less of a benefit and more of a necessity. So if you find yourself working from home for one of the first times in your life and you’re wondering how you will make it work, here are a few tips to keep you positive, focused, and efficient.

  1. Know your technology. Make sure you’re bringing home all of your necessary supplies so that you’re working with items with which you’re already familiar.
  2. Check your internet connection. Or, move to a place in your house where the connection will be the strongest. There’s nothing more frustrating than a slow internet connection when you’re trying to get work done!
  3. Communicate, communicate, communicate! This is probably the most important tip of the bunch. When you work from home, it’s easy to get confused, lost in projects, feel isolated, or overwhelmed. This is the prime time to exercise your communication skills, discussing with your coworkers what you’re working on, where you might need help, what you can all collectively be doing to bring everyone closer together despite being miles apart. Reviewing the company’s daily goals, boosting morale, and creating an agenda will also help everyone stay on the same page.
  4. Maintain some kind of routine. It is easy to feel lazy when we don’t get out of our pajamas all day. However, many people find that putting on a clean outfit, eating a healthy breakfast, and beginning work at a designated time helps them feel more productive, energized, and provides a sense of accomplishment.

These times may seem difficult and we might be feeling lonely, but we are all in this together! There are many resources out there if you want to further your productivity or learn how to better hold a team together while we are physically apart. Stay happy, stay healthy!
