Back in 2017, we talked about how augmented reality will transform the jewelry industry. Now, four years later, how far have we come? The answer is not very. Augmented reality is still a bit of a fringe technology. Not yet the ubiquitous evolution it promises to be. Despite that fact, it continues to move forward.
Snap, the company behind Snapchat, recently announced the fourth iteration of its AR glasses dubbed Spectacles. And rumors about Apple working on their own AR glasses continue to taunt the tech speculation community.
But perhaps the biggest change to the landscape since 2017 is the pandemic. Now, more than ever, people are embracing remote work and online shopping. It has quickened a trend that was already coming.
So, if rumors about Apple's AR glasses turn out to be true, it will be an important technology to watch. Apple just may determine whether augmented reality becomes widely adopted.
