Everyone knows and plans for the biggest holidays of the year. We’re used to promoting great gifts for Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Valentine’s Day, wishing customers well on New Year's Eve and Thanksgiving. And even marking important historical holidays with respectful remembrances on days like MLK Jr. Day, Independence Day, and Memorial Day.
But there are hundreds of additional “micro-holidays” every year! They’re not celebrated with time off or big parties, but they can be a fun way to liven up your social media accounts and create bonds with your clients. These days celebrate things like chocolate chip cookies, spouses, friendship, or puppies. Tie them into your schedule for simple additions that will get your followers’ attention. A few of our favorites for 2021 are listed below with an idea for posting.
January 29 - National Fun at Work Day: Get your staff involved in this one by playing a game at the store.
February 3 - Doggy Date Night: Share photos of your own canine companion and encourage fans to add theirs in the comments.
February 17 - Random Act of Kindness Day: This is a great way to get people talking about your store! Provide all of your associates with a small gift card to a local coffee shop that they can hand out to one of their customers throughout the day. Include a small thank you note with your social media handles so they can share and tag you.
March 6 - National Dress Day: A simple way to show off your jewelry! Ask a volunteer from your store to share a photo in their favorite dress with some of your best selling pieces.
April 7 - National Beer Day: Take advantage of other local businesses on this one! Find a local brewery and snap a photo of your drink on the table - make sure you sneak in a peek of your wristwatch or bracelet. Don’t forget to tag the business!
May 16 - National Mimosa Day: If you typically offer your clients a beverage while they shop, consider bringing in mimosas as a special treat!
June 6 - National Eyeware Day: Another chance to show off some jewelry! Pair your best selling earrings with different styles of eyeglasses for a fun and informative post.
July 6 - International Kissing Day: Share photos of past and current bridal clients with the #InternationalKissingDay hashtag.
August 3 - National White Wine Day: Head to a local restaurant for a happy hour glass of white wine, and don’t forget to include a gorgeous ring in your photo!
September 12 - Grandparents Day: An overlooked holiday to celebrate grandparents. Share a personal memory and photograph and encourage followers to do the same.
October 5 - World Teacher’s Day: Show your appreciation for local teachers with a simple “Thank You” post.
November 12 - National Happy Hour Day: This one speaks for itself, just don’t forget to share your photo!
December 1 - Giving Tuesday: Meant to be a charitable holiday following the rush of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, this gives you a chance to highlight some of the charitable giving throughout the year and encourage others to do the same.
Hopefully, this gives you a great starting point when planning your social media posting for the year. For more holidays, check out the National Today website.
