As I was scrolling through LinkedIn the other day, I came across a post that caught my attention. The post, by sales specialist Steve Herouox, stated, “Your greatest asset in sales is your mindset,” and I couldn’t agree more. I believe your mindset is your greatest asset in every aspect of life. Your mindset can affect your health, motivation, relationships, success, etc. - the list could go on and on. Many times, one’s mindset is categorized by optimistic/glass half full and pessimistic/glass half empty. However, a person’s mindset can also be categorized by infinite and finite, especially when referring to sales and the workplace.
To summarize, Heroux’s post continues on to discuss leading with an infinite mindset. To lead with an infinite mindset is to focus on the long-term journey and to prioritize your salespeople's development over immediate results. As a result, you will foster trust and teamwork in your sales team. Alternatively, a finite mindset prioritizes seizing the most out of your team at this very moment, with the focus on short-term numbers. This results in eroding trust, teamwork, and creativity.
Now, I want to put you on the spot and challenge you to analyze your leadership mindset. Just as Heroux defines it in his post, are you a finite leader that asks, "How can I get the most out of my team right now?" or are you an infinite leader that asks, "How can I help my team become the best version of themselves?"
The culture of a workplace is everything. But that culture starts at the top with leadership. I want to encourage you to celebrate your team's efforts and growth, not just their results. Lead with an infinite mindset to cultivate a culture of growth, leading to improved performance and gratitude from your team. A team that is well cared for is a team who will in return steward your business with care and will have the desire to help it succeed. As Heroux points out at the end of his post, this small change can lead to a big difference in the success of your team.
