Out Of This World Turkey Brine

Like many others, Thanksgiving last year looked a little different. Instead of travelling to Indianapolis to spend some time with our extended family, we had a small, intimate Thanksgiving at home with my parents and siblings. This was the perfect opportunity for us to try out this “Out of This World Turkey Brine” recipe we stumbled across, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

Out Of This World Turkey Brine

Course Main Course


  • 1 large turkey
  • 2 gallons water
  • 1 1/2 cups canning or Kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • Apple Juice
  • Whole Cloves
  • Lemon Juice
  • Ground Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme


  • In a food-grade large bucket or container large enough to hold your turkey, mix together the water, salt, garlic, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar (as well as the other ingredients if you choose to “kick it up”).
  • Store mixture in refrigerator, soaking turkey for 2 days before smoking or roasting.
  • After soaking, remove turkey from mixture and stuff with apples, oranges, lemons, and onions.
  • Cook breast side down for about 3 hours at 170-175°F and enjoy!
